A complete overview of the backup schedules, retention periods and restore options that apply to Ovastack and Cloudbizz environments.
Operational reference
H+30Ovastack backup every hour
30 daysof daily VM backups
12 monthsof Cloudbizz monthly points
3 / dayShadow Copies on shared servers
The timestamp is decisive
A restore point contains the data available at the exact time the backup was created. The 09:30 backup therefore does not necessarily represent the exact state of the system at 09:00.
01
Standard protection
Ovastack infrastructure backups and replication
The standard Ovastack schedule combines frequent restore points on the production infrastructure with an additional resilience layer on the replication site.
Hourly backup
At 30 minutes past each hour
For example: 09:30, 10:30 and 11:30.
Daily backup
At 00:00
A daily restore point is created at midnight.
Production retention
Up to 2 weeks
Subject to the availability of the relevant restore point.
Replication-site retention
Approximately 2 to 3 days
Short-term restore points.
A resilience layer, not an archive
The replication platform provides additional infrastructure-level protection. Its shorter retention period means that it should not be considered a long-term backup repository.
02
Additional protection
Additional Cloudbizz VM backups
All virtual machines on the Cloudbizz platform are also backed up daily through an additional backup system, independently of the standard Ovastack backups and replication.
Schedule and retention
01
20:00
Daily processing starts
Virtual machines then enter a processing queue.
02
Variable order
Queue-based processing
The order is not fixed, so the effective backup time of a specific VM may be later than 20:00.
03
30 days
Daily retention
Each successfully completed daily backup remains available for 30 days.
04
Month end
Monthly restore point
The last successfully completed daily backup of the month becomes the monthly restore point.
05
12 months
Monthly retention
Monthly restore points are retained for 12 months.
About the monthly restore point
The monthly restore point is not necessarily created at midnight on the final day of the month. It is the last available and successfully completed daily backup for that month.
Four protection layers for a Cloudbizz-managed VM
1
Short-term recovery
Ovastack points on the production infrastructure.
2
Infrastructure resilience
Ovastack replication on a separate platform.
3
Daily history
Cloudbizz points retained for 30 days.
4
Monthly history
Cloudbizz points retained for 12 months.
Cloudbizz Support
Request a restore
Restore requests can be submitted through Cloudbizz Support. Any restore remains subject to the availability and successful completion of the relevant restore point.
For a dedicated Ovastack tenant, such as Mercaflux, the default backup schedule and retention policy are identical to the standard Ovastack configuration.
Hourly
Every hour at H+30
Daily
At midnight
Production
Up to 2 weeks
Replication
Approximately 2 to 3 days
Scope: the complete tenant
These backups cover the dedicated tenant as a whole. They are intended primarily for full-tenant or infrastructure-level recovery, rather than occasional granular restoration of individual files.
Need granular recovery?
The appropriate backup solution, schedule and retention policy must be configured directly within the dedicated tenant according to the customer’s specific operational and retention requirements.
04
File-level recovery
Windows Shadow Copies
Windows Shadow Copies are separate from infrastructure-level and VM-level backup systems. They provide additional, more immediate file-level recovery points, but do not replace the regular backup systems described above.
Windows
Shared file servers
On shared file servers, including WB, HM, Common and similar servers, three Shadow Copies are created each day:
07:00
12:00
18:00
Dedicated servers
Shadow Copies are not enabled by default on dedicated servers.
Partner configuration
Our partners can enable and configure Shadow Copies within their own environment according to their specific requirements.
Cloudbizz Support
Need a restore point?
Cloudbizz Support will identify the most suitable available point with you and confirm the restore options.
